How To Achieve On Demand Packaging Perfection In Eight Easy Steps

The Packsize team had a great time at Pack Expo this last November. I know this is really belated, but thanks to all of you who stopped by our booth, said hi, and learned a little more about On Demand Packaging^® solutions and systems.

But for those who weren’t there, we’d like to share the demonstration we set up at the show. With just an EM7 and a few pieces of equipment, we were able to create a mini-packaging line that can be fully operated in eight easy steps. So here’s the video, followed by some quick commentary for each step.

‍Step 1: Scan the product dimensions with Cubiscan.

Cubiscan machines can instantly scan product dimensions. With both static and in-line dimensional scanners, Cubiscan has a product that will fit your business’ needs.

Step 2: Product dimensions are sent to the Packsize machine.

While your products are traveling to the packing zone, those instant product dimensions are sent to the Packsize machine, where packaging software is used to calculate the smallest possible box dimensions.

Step 3: The box making machine creates a right-sized box.

Something that’s pretty cool is that if multiple items are scanned for the same shipment, Packsize’s custom box making machine will automatically create a box that can fit all the items in the shipment.

Step 4: Apply the shipping label and assemble the box.

Shipping labels are automatically printed for each individual shipment. With this setup, an auto-gluer quickly seals the glue joint. You can see our operator use a wet tape machine to seal the bottom of the box, while other companies use a bottom case sealer. Whatever your needs are, Packsize can provide the equipment to fit the job.

Step 5: Load all the items in your brand-new right-sized box.

Pretty self-explanatory, really.

Step 6: The box is scanned to determine the exact amount of void fill needed.

The label applied in step four is automatically scanned as the box passes by. Since almost any box with multiple items will have some amount of empty space, this machine will guarantee that the box isn’t overstuffed with unnecessary filler.

Step 7: Add the void fill and seal the box.

You’ll notice a neat top case sealer and the Storopack PaperPlus are used in this step. One thing I like about this video is that it showcases how Packsize is so much more than box making machines. We offer a full line of packaging equipment and supplies.

Step 8: Your perfect box is now ready to be shipped!

This is a pretty simple process, right? We slowed down some of the actions to give you more time to see how the package flows through the whole line. A full packaging line running at peak performance can create quite a few shipments per hour—and it wouldn’t look too much different from this.
